The Society was formed in 1981 by J.J.Dunne [J’D] who sadly passed away on July 24th 2006 after a long illness, despite his ill health J’D always held his sense of humour and above all else his love of golf and the P.V.G.S. a true friend and mentor to many people. Below is his story, of how he liked to say,

As a member of the POULTON VICTORIA SPORTS & SOCIAL CLUB in Wallasey, which has a Football, Darts, Snooker & Bowls Sections, I decided to try to form a Golf Section and was encouraged by the then committee of Arthur Stevenson, Stan Cotsgrave John Spain and Ted Jones.

The PVGS soon started to take shape and in 1981 it was formed with golfing friends and members of the parent club, we started playing competitive golf at Hoylake Municipal Golf Course were we stayed for two years.

With the securing of a block booking at Arrowe Park Golf Course we have been teeing off at 8.00am every Sunday for the last 18 years.

Since being formed like all societies and golf clubs we have had our ups and downs but managed to keep the society together.

In closing PVGS have become recognised as one of the most successful, efficient and highly organised golf societies on the Wirral, If not on Merseyside.
